NAI Harcourts North Commercial Property Manager Jessie Legge will represent her adopted home of Tasmania for the second time in three years at the REIA Awards for Excellence this month.
When Jessie Legge moved to Launceston from Sydney three years ago, her motivation stemmed from a personal real estate ambition, rather than a professional one.
"It's where I could afford to buy a house," she said.
"Launceston was also an area I was happy to live in."
She has since made her mark on the city's commercial property market as a member of the NAI Harcourts team, named Real Estate Institute of Tasmania Commercial Property Manager for the year for 2016 and 2018.
Last year's win means she will head to Perth at the end of March for REIA Awards for Excellence.
Ms Legge said her success has coincided with that of her adopted home.
"I've felt the pace picking up here since I arrived," she said.
"There's been a lot of big transactions along with developments like the Silos Hotel, which has been fantastic."
"I've got some young professional friends who have made the move down here, and it seems more and more people are making the lifestyle change."
As of August last year, there was $1.8 billion worth of commercial projects under construction in Tasmania and a further $2.8 billion in the planning stages.
Launceston projects such as Hotel Verge on Cimitiere Street and the University of Tasmania's northern expansion have contributed to the trend
Ms Legge said it was time for the city's retail sector to step up and fulfil its potential.
"I think there needs to be an overreaching focus on retail, because right now the sector is very individualised," she said.
"The mall has the potential to be great, but we are just off the track at the moment.
"Rather than reinvent the wheel, they should copy leading operators such as Westfield.
"The leading operators know that certain demographics spend more money than others, and there is a focus on facilities such as public toilets and areas for families."
The REIA Awards for Excellence will be held at Crown Perth on Thursday 21 March 2019.
