The 46-storey office building at 1 William Street has been named Queensland's development of the year by the Property Council of Australia.
Cbus Property and ISPT have been recognised for their "striking" addition to Brisbane's skyline, awarded the Property Council of Australia's Rider Levett Bucknall Queensland Development of the Year award for 1 William Street.
Home to the Queensland Government and public service, the 46-storey office building provides about 75,000 square metres of net lettable area, including 1,100 square metres of retail and 318 car spaces.
Property Council’s Queensland Executive Director Chris Mountford said the tower was a major catalyst project for the Queens Wharf precinct.
At a glance:
"This landmark commercial tower has reintegrated an undervalued section of the foreshore back into the physical and social fabric of Brisbane city," he said.
“Cbus Property and ISPT have not only delivered a purpose-built workplace of international standards, but also a significant economic boost to the Brisbane economy.
"Iconic projects like 1 William Street build prosperity by creating jobs, growth and opportunities for Queenslanders.”
Key design features of the building include rounded corners to mitigate hierarchies and space ‘ownership'; 10, 3 storey atriums, facing the city and Parliament House, with flowing interconnecting stairs that connect more people on more floors, visible to the city and the citizens; centralised social, collaboration and meeting spaces around the atriums encouraging more interaction; and stepped, open, terraces at the crown of the building.
For David Stewart, Managing Director of awards partner RLB, the building has "set a new benchmark" for government accommodation across Australia.
“1 William Street has enhanced connectivity between the Brisbane River, the city and the Botanical Gardens, activating the public realm with new pedestrian linkages and landscaped terrace zones that introduce a new public amenity to the precinct,” he said.
"RLB is proud to have provided cost management and quantity surveying services to Cbus Property to revolutionise the way we think about offices in Brisbane."
1 William Street is now competing in three categories at the national awards, which will be held in Sydney on Friday 17 May.
