The annual Property Industry Foundation (PIF) event aims to help raise money for homeless youth.
Four members of Knight Frank’s Gold Coast office will sleep on the street for one night in October to participate in the PIF StreetSleep 2019.
Tanaka Jabangwe, Knight Frank’s Associate Director of Retail Leasing, will take part in the annual event on October 9 along with Travis Gielen, Owen Jones and Nick Campbell in Knight Frank’s residential projects division.
Mr Jabangwe said that the group had decided to participate this year to give back to the local community and try to make a difference to homeless youth across the Gold Coast.
He said the statistics relating to homelessness in Australia were alarming and that action was needed across society to prevent it from becoming an epidemic.
At a glance:
“Every night around 44,000 young people across Australia are homeless,” Jabangwe said.
“Many of these are under the age of 18 and children, who through no fault of their own are sleeping rough.
“These statistics struck a nerve with our team of young professionals and we’ve decided we need to do something to help.
“We are aiming to bring awareness to an issue most pay no mind to because it’s easy to pass judgement from the comfort of a home, but this rapidly growing issue could soon become an epidemic if we don’t start taking steps to curb homelessness now.
“It’s one night in 365 for us to do it tough to support our homeless who spent endless nights on the street out of necessity.”
The PIF StreetSleep event raises funds to help build homes for homeless youth.
The Knight Frank quartet will conduct various fundraising activities to raise money and hit their individual targets of $500 to donate to the worthy cause, including at a fundraising breakfast in Knight Frank’s Gold Coast office earmarked for October 4.
“We hope to inspire others to join the cause and sleep out this year to raise money, or to donate to this important cause,” said Jabangwe.
Every dollar raised in the StreetSleep will go towards building houses to break the cycle of youth
homelessness.
