CBRE and Riverlee announce that Icon Cancer Centre, Australia's leading provider of comprehensive cancer care, has committed to a significant presence at the New Epping Health Hub (NEHH). This strategic partnership between Riverlee and Icon Groupwill substantially enhance the provision of critical cancer services within this growing healthcare precinct in Melbourne's northern suburbs.
Sandro Peluso, Jimmy Tat and Kai Wang from CBRE Australian Healthcare and Social Infrastructure spearheaded the expressions of interest campaign in partnership with Riverlee.
Icon Cancer Centre, with a national network of 40 locations, has executed a 15-year lease for a 775-square-meter facility within the NEHH's New Epping Medical Centre. This state-of-the-art centre will offer a comprehensive suite of cancer care services, including advanced radiation therapy technology and techniques, ensuring that residents of Melbourne's north have access to world-class treatment within their local community.
This expansion comes at a crucial time, as Victoria grapples with a rising incidence of cancer diagnoses. In 2022, approximately 35,656 Victorians received a cancer diagnosis which translate to an astonishing 98 new cases per day*. With radiation oncology playing a vital role in the treatment of approximately 50% of all cancer patients, the Icon Cancer Centre at NEHH will be instrumental in addressing the growing demand for these essential services.
The NEHH is rapidly emerging as a premier integrated healthcare destination in Melbourne's north. Encompassing 20 hectares, the precinct includes the Northern Public Hospital and the recently commissioned $133 million Northern Private Hospital operated by Ramsay Healthcare. The addition of Icon Cancer Centre further solidifies the NEHH's position as a premier healthcare hub, attracting leading healthcare providers and contributing to the ongoing development of a thriving healthcare ecosystem.
“Beyond its advanced medical facilities, the NEHH is distinguished by its commitment to creating a healing and wellness-focused environment. The precinct features extensive green spaces and a revitalized central green spine, promoting a sense of tranquillity and well-being for patients and healthcare professionals alike.” Says Jimmy Tat.
“As staffing challenges continues to be a vital issue in the healthcare sector, operators are starting to put more emphasis on the amenities surrounding a medical centre. Being in a wellness focused hub will significantly assist with staff retention.” Says Kai Wang
Sandro Peluso Said “There were strong competition during the campaign from operators ranging from local to international organisation. The major attraction was the prime location within the Epping healthcare precinct, being co-located with Northern Private Hospital and Northern Public Hospital will mean significant exposure from day one.”
Riverlee Development Director, David Lee, said: “We are thrilled to welcome Icon Cancer Centre as a major occupier within the New Epping Health Hub. Their presence not only brings world-class cancer care services to the region but also enhances our vision of creating a comprehensive, integrated health precinct. Icon’s decision to join us marks a pivotal milestone in the growth of the New Epping Health Hub as a centre for healthcare excellence that will transform health outcomes and build a stronger, healthier future for Melbourne’s north.”
With limited areas remaining, operators are urged to reach out to any member of the CBRE Australian Healthcare and Social Infrastructures team for more details.
