Two key health tenants have committed to Proxima, Evans Long’s new $80m flagship development within Lumina, the Queensland Government's 9.5 hectare commercial cluster at the Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct.
Queensland’s first privately owned integrated Cancer Imaging and Therapy Centre (CITC) has taken 500sqm while Mater Pathology has also secured space on the ground floor of the eight level building which is currently under construction.
Highly respected Gold Coast Radiologist Dr Tom Huang will lead the CITC team which will include up to five specialist Radiologists / dual-qualified Radiologist and Nuclear Medicine specialist and between 25-30 staff including the Chief Technician who has 30 years of experience in the industry.
“We are really excited with the opportunity to bring our personalised diagnostic medical imaging services to our region, these are services which are not currently available in any public hospital on the Gold Coast and very limited in local private hospitals.
“We are providing a novel service which is similar to renowned cancer centres such as the Peter MacCallum Cancer Foundation in Melbourne and the Chris O’Brien Lifehouse in Sydney.
“We are very pleased to bring this level of highly specialized expertise to our community as it ensures we can be an integral part of our patient’s cancer journey and treatment,” Dr Huang said.
Colliers Gold Coast associate director Bede Blatchford said there had been a strong flight to quality from occupiers in the Gold Coast market which has seen a number of new commercial developments reach fully occupied status prior to completion.
“Healthcare is one of the two largest contributors to Queensland’s economic growth and the Lumina precinct is undoubtably leading the way as an innovative community in health and knowledge sectors.
“Proxima is well positioned to benefit from the current strong leasing conditions, particularly with a limited supply pipeline into the Gold Coast’s core commercial precincts over the next two years,” Mr Blatchford said.
The latest research from the Property Council of Australia indicates that the Gold Coast commercial vacancy is performing very well with a yearly reduction of 4.2% (14.3% (Jan-21) to 10.1% (Jan-22).
CITC and Mater Group join committed Proxima occupants including Sanctuary Early Learning Adventure, GC Health and Griffith University in the first new building available for lease within Lumina - the Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct’s commercial cluster that includes the Gold Coast University Hospital, Griffith University and the Gold Coast University Private Hospital.
In July 2021, ASX listed, HealthCo Health and Wellness REIT purchased the Proxima building in a fund-through deal valued at circa $80 million.
